Chamada para participação em Projeto

Call for participation: (UN)Folding Zagreb
A workshop by Sara Wookey, Bianca Scliar Mancini and Christopher Brunner

(UN)Folding Zagreb is a three-day collaborative workshop that will take place during the 15th Annual Performance Studies International Conference (PSi15) in Zagreb, Croatia from June 24th-28th, 2009.
In a format that resembles a workshop but that aims at a collective research-creation process participants will use movement and rhythm as techniques to explore how to know Zagreb through affects. Participants will share a short reading pack, which includes philosophical texts, as well as other relevant writings and images that will set a common ground of knowledge about the city.
With three molecules of actions, each one with a specific focus on either movement, visual or sound elements, this method of approaching the city is strongly based on improvisation techniques, both from dance and music, which prioritizes flow and process; it is anti-flaneur as it proposes participation and movement of the body as a tool for engagement with the others in the space of the city, exploring the notion of gestural contamination.
(Un)Folding Zagreb consists of intense work during the three blocks of three hours of activities in the studio (physical propositions), outdoors (tasks of collecting) and on mapping techniques (collective composition).
We encourage applications of participants of all backgrounds (theory, dance, visual arts, theater, music, etc.). Please send us a letter of intent and tell us how you will be willing to contribute to the work (max. 300 words). Images are welcome (máx.4)

Christoph Brunner is a researcher and writer based in Montréal. His interests concern philosophical approaches towards sound and interfaces in performative ecologies. He regards sound, architecture, politics, and philosophy as techniques for thought as intervention. His sound-related practices deal with material encounters in sonic ecologies.
Bianca Scliar Mancini is a multidisciplinary artist and researcher. She studied dance and visual arts (sculpture and photography) in Brazil before completing her MFA in Public Art at the Bauhaus University in Germany. Her performance-based works make use of relational objects and explore how we constitute the city through movement. She is currently investigating expanded notions of choreography and examining how affect produces performative practices in urban spaces.
Sara Wookey is an artist based in Los Angeles, California. Returning to the United States, after ten years living abroad in the Netherlands, she has created performance and media art focused on issues of public space and social interaction in the city. Her interests include phenomenology, urban sociology, corporeality, and civic politics. She is currently working on collaboratively with the Los Angeles Community Redevelopment Agency and LA Urban Rangers and teaches at the California Institute of the Arts.
